Like at Fieldays, innovation, thinking outside the square and making positive change are such integral features of our alumni community. Nate Alley from Sentinel Homes in the Waikato is leading the charge in the construction industry, diverting 60% of waste from skips and repurposing into cabins for auction. Hear more in Nate’s podcast below along with, what the Government can do to help our building sector to be more efficient, more effective and more productive, and much more.
What a phenomenal day we had at The Icehouse Alumni Conference 2024! Check out a selection of photos from the day here. Thanks to the nearly 200 alumni who braved the stormy weather, and to our speakers Sam Stubbs (Simplicity), Nicola Taylor (Tax Traders & Taxi), Steven Joyce, Zarina Bazoeva (Neocrete) and the panel members Duncan McFarlane (Indevin), Brandon Jackson (BNZ) and Greg Byers (Frank Accounting) for giving us a healthy dose of learning and optimism amongst the gritty chats about life leading Kiwi SMEs right now.
At the Conference, we formally announced the change of leadership at The Icehouse. Last year, I signalled that I wanted to step away from the CEO role and play a different part in the business. Specifically, I will be leading the design and delivery of our programmes and other customer solutions. Olivia Blaylock will be stepping into the CEO role from 1 July. As an Owner Manager Programme alumni herself, Olivia brings empathy and experience to this position. You can read more about the changes here.
Last month we reported that Icehouse alumni are getting younger - 28% of our Owner Manager Programme attendees are now 35 and under, compared to 9% ten years ago - the same can also be said for business owners engaging an Icehouse specialist business coach. Sam Wilson from Modern Barn Living is working with Icehouse coach Andy Hamilton as he looks to build a core alliance model for his design and build business. Read about Sam's business and his experience with Andy here.
Succession, Sale & Exit - It's a Challenging Process!
Having a specialist coach can make all the difference when you’re thinking about entering the sale or succession process. The latest stats from the ABC Business Sales Quarterly Report show that the demand side of business sales has reached historical highs with 19,866 confidentiality agreements signed in the last twelve months - 51% ahead of the same period last year.
Here's our very own succession and exit planning specialist Andrew Martin emparting some knowledge on the process, have a watch on LinkedIn!
EmpowHER Scholarships
We are stoked to announce the winner of the EmpowerHER competition. This has been an Icehouse collab with brand icons Saben and Dermologica. A huge congratulations to the winner Megan King from Finding Voices. With a total prize pool of $31,000 in prizes including coaching it’s not surprising we had an overwhelming number of entries.
